“Was not their mistake once more bred of the life of slavery that they had been living?—a life which was always looking upon everything, except mankind, animate and inanimate—‘nature,’ as people used to call it—as one thing, and mankind as another, it was natural to people thinking in this way, that they should try to make ‘nature’ their slave, since they thought ‘nature’ was something outside them” — William Morris

Paul Stamets on Mushrooms

I ate about ten different mushrooms in my supper last night (two days it was ferns, delicious, never before tried). So when Jarrod Fowler sent me this link I was all ears. Mushrooms are very very interesting lifeforms.

Have you read John Cage on mushooms? It's all through Silence.

& isn't his (in)famous 4'33" all about letting the objects speak unimpeded?

indeed. you might be interested in his book. not great writing, but makes great points clearly, and like in that video, the fact that he's a huge fan of what he's talking about overcomes the lack of presentation (written and physical).

Yes, Bill, funnily enough I just started reading it. And yes indeed 4' 33" is an object oriented music, or non-music, good point. I think it was originally written for an open air amphitheater.
