“Was not their mistake once more bred of the life of slavery that they had been living?—a life which was always looking upon everything, except mankind, animate and inanimate—‘nature,’ as people used to call it—as one thing, and mankind as another, it was natural to people thinking in this way, that they should try to make ‘nature’ their slave, since they thought ‘nature’ was something outside them” — William Morris

Aliens vs Wimbledon

One of the best things about today is the class I'm teaching: "The Call of Cthulhu," The War of the Worlds" and Schelling's The Ages of the World.

The relentless suburban-ness of the Wells is very special. I like how my home town of Wimbledon gets torched. The only Wimbledon lit thrill that comes close is when it shows up in Blake's apocalyptic vision, Milton.
