“Was not their mistake once more bred of the life of slavery that they had been living?—a life which was always looking upon everything, except mankind, animate and inanimate—‘nature,’ as people used to call it—as one thing, and mankind as another, it was natural to people thinking in this way, that they should try to make ‘nature’ their slave, since they thought ‘nature’ was something outside them” — William Morris

Critical Animal's Scu on Blogging

Scu has this characteristically thoughtful post up about blogging and why it's been assaulted recently by academics. I tend to think that it has less to do with the intellectual issues and more to do with a psychological truth: no one likes it when you individuate.

No one gave us permission to start doing this. We just sort of did, and in many cases it's been quite successful. This one for instance gets about 2000 hits on a good day. Bigger than your average theory seminar.
