The Rather Unedifying Spectacle

...of right wing Catholics over here striving to put the Pope in a box. He is, after all, called Francis. What else were you expecting? Strange how when it comes to caring for nonhumans, it all becomes a matter of choice rather than ethical obligation for people otherwise committed to blindly following authority, just because it's authority.

  1. Caring for nonhumans AND ourselves, i.e. admitting one has a problem. Humbling oneself before an imaginary being is one thing. Humbling oneself before a thing for which evidence exists is a little too real and doesn't necessarily allow for the compartmentalization of it from the rest of one's life as religious prayer does. I've been digging Lee Perry lately, and I'm beginning to think his playful religiosity might be a good ecological mode. Matter of fact here's a quote: "Roman Catholic? I gonna make this quick: dem kinda shit a make you want to shit and can't shit. I know, cause I did it! And I also forbid it, cause I with it."

  2. Thank GOD for Ecology Without Nature.

Monbiot got Francis wrong in the Guardian (with nary a shout out to Deleuze) and we veer more to John Grey about morals being selective neuroses than anything else. Yes, Franky the earth will not forgive your denial of responsibility for enabling thermal energy to rise as we consider a spectacle attended by the unemacipated humans. At least the animals sense it behave accordingly, as in the Elephant's despair, the starlings migration and the coral reef dying, and the objects must as well as their phases rattle and humm and photons pick up thermal energy and recall their love for linked particles.

I am soo through talking to conformists of any stripe on climate change. So to add one thought:

13th Floor Elevators, the original fruity loops feedback distorters stuck in the North Texas biome. Francis should get off when the lift reaches there.

  3. Saint Francis, patron saint of non-human entities -- and an artist. He ostensibly made the first nativity scene, which really appeals to us farm-animal activists
