Perhaps Al should consider his words because maybe 'humanity' is the problem. As Carey Wolf wrote in his Before the Law Foucauldian/Agamben treatment of how the legal system frames animals: we are all potential animals ie deprived of personhood and made killable or sacrificiable (in whatever jargon one wants to put it). Thus a constrained and restructured definition of 'humanity' excludes the Michael Browns and Eric Garners of this word as non persons, lacking in humanity and killable by the government at will. I have met Al Sharpton a few time and the dude utters manipulative phrases designed to produce a familiar affective response -- just like Reagan did. The black men being murdered by police deserve a more intelligent and forceful advocate.
