In his rather dull just-another-puff-piece for cultural and media studies, Toby Miller suggests that humanities majors are declining. Well that's odd, because everywhere I've worked, the science departments were funded in large part by humanities majors (in particular in English).
I'm sick and tired of these crass utilitarian arguments—it's not popular, so "blow it up." Bollocks. Universities must be places where people study what isn't popular.
