Slouching Towards Yucca Mountain—Hyperobjects, the Movie

I got news of a movie being made about the storage of nuclear materials underground in Yucca Mountain, one of the worst ideas ever devised by humans. Looks like a worthy cause at the very least if you feel like supporting it.

It strikes me that we still find it extremely hard to talk about what to do with our waste. There is no “away” yet we are still not quite ready to do the right thing. Which is? Monitored retrievable overground storage of nuclear materials, forever. It's called Nuclear Guardianship.

  1. Oh, but Tim, really. Nuclear Guardianship might, you know, inconvenience the ruling class. Can't have that.

  2. Of course Zachary--I'd forgotten about that. We'd better settle for plutonium silverware from here on out.
