I know these are classic philosophical terms, but I'm wondering what your take is, and I'm yet to find any extended definitions etc in your past writing.<br /><br />My guess: that you'd say appearance is whatever turns up in the relationship (co-existence) between one thing and another, whereas essence is what is there beyond any single appearance, which grounds (the possibility) of all sorts of appearances (appearances which can be so different any contrary) but also can never be exhausted and thus is somehow 'hidden' or 'withdrawn' or 'undisclosed'.
